Day 1 - You can see the smiles when a good laugh is had with Sargent Mark Hodges of the California Highway Patrol. From Left to Right, Steve Cesina, Cubby Lovato, Charles White, Robertjohn and Mark Hodges and Gary Fourstar (barely visible).
Day 1 - We like this guy! Robertjohn and the SOS Walkers would
like to thank Sargent Mark Hodges of the
California Highway Patrol for his and
the two other units for protecting our safety. He stayed with us long
into the day and was very late to his son's 7th birthday. For that
we send a hearty "hey-ya!" and thanks.
Tell your son Happy Birthday for us. * Please note: The CHP is not associated with SOS nor does it endorse our walk. They provide a "civil service" for the citizens of California. |

Day 1 - Robertjohn and Cubby Lovato walking Highway 76. At times
the road became so narrow there was only room for one human foot at a time.

Day 1 - Break time. The temperature rose over 100 and water stops are a critical part of our walk. Here you see the SOS banner that is carried far to the front of the walkers.
Day 1 - Hey Mom, c'mon! Tommy (right) and his school friend (left) take a moment to look back for the photographer.
Day 1 - Another water break down the road.
Day 1 - Two sign trucks from
Caltrans, one for each direction
warns motorists that walkers are ahead. The two gals driving also did
a great job and we thank them for protecting our safety. Caltrans also
provided a porta-pottie at pre-selected sites for the walkers. Thanks
again.
